Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has established a Coroner Inquest and Panel of Inquiry to investigate the killings, shootings, injuries and violence reported at Naira and Kobo Junction, Motor Park/Garage Area, Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area.

The panel was established through an Executive Order issued by the governor on Saturday, following the incident of August 24, 2026.

The inquiry, which is headed by Magistrate Ayokunle Shiyanbola, is expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the violence, determine the identities and number of victims, establish the immediate and remote causes of the incident and examine whether criminal responsibility is connected to the deaths.

The Executive Order takes effect from August 31 and mandates the panel to investigate the role played by security operatives during the incident.

It will also determine whether live ammunition or other weapons were used and whether their use complied with the law, rules of engagement and human rights standards.

The state government disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

According to the statement, the panel will investigate the circumstances that led to the shootings and killings and assess the conduct of security personnel involved in the incident.

The panel will also examine whether the actions or omissions of individuals or groups contributed to the violence.

It has further been empowered to identify any individual or group, including security personnel, political actors, transport union members, public officials or others whose actions or omissions may have contributed to the incident.

The inquiry is expected to provide findings on the circumstances surrounding the violence and make recommendations based on its investigations.
