Gunmen Kill Two Security Operatives In Plateau Ambush.

Two security operatives have been killed after gunmen attacked a joint security patrol team along the Ganawuri-Sabon Gida road in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday, August 4, 2026, when the operatives, who were drawn from two security locations, mounted a roadblock along the route during a patrol operation.

Security sources told Vanguard that the team was returning to their various duty posts after completing the operation when two members of the patrol failed to arrive.

Their colleagues immediately launched a search for them and later discovered their bodies at the scene of the attack.

The attackers reportedly took away the service rifles belonging to the slain operatives, while the motorcycle used by the personnel was recovered.

Following the attack, security agencies began cordon-and-search operations in nearby communities to locate the gunmen and recover the stolen weapons.

The identities of the two victims had not been officially released as of the time of filing this report.

Attempts to get confirmation from the Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, SP Alfred Alabo, and the Media Information Officer of Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, were unsuccessful.
