Helicopter Carrying Tourists Crashes In Kenya, Killing All On Board.

 

A helicopter carrying tourists has crashed near Mt Ololokwe in Samburu County, Kenya, killing everyone on board.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) confirmed the accident in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

According to the aviation authority, the aircraft, a Eurocopter EC130 B4 with registration number 5Y-GYM, was travelling from Loisaba to Ewasonyiro when the crash occurred.

The accident reportedly happened at about 9:13 a.m. local time near Lolokwe Mountain.

“KCAA confirms that an aircraft accident involving a Eurocopter EC130 B4, registration 5Y-GYM, has occurred at Lolokwe Mountain in Samburu County on Wednesday, 19 August 2026,” the authority said.

“The aircraft was conducting a flight from Loisaba to Ewasonyiro when the accident occurred at approximately 0913 hrs local time.”

The KCAA said it was working with relevant government agencies and other stakeholders in response to the crash.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are being led by the Air Accident Investigation Department under Kenya's Ministry of Roads and Transport.

The aviation authority also extended its condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives.

A preliminary police report indicated that seven tourists were on board the helicopter before it crashed.

Police said the nationalities of the victims had yet to be confirmed as investigations and identification efforts continued.
