Bwala made the clarification during an interview on the KAA TRUTHS podcast, following renewed questions over comments he allegedly made about Tinubu while he was in the opposition.
The presidential aide maintained that he had never referred to Tinubu as an illegitimate President, insisting that the claim had been wrongly attributed to him.
According to Bwala, activist and member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Aisha Yesufu, was the person who described Tinubu as an illegitimate President.
He attributed Yesufu’s continued position to what he described as her lack of understanding of the law, particularly despite the Supreme Court’s ruling on the 2023 presidential election.
“Nobody in Nigeria, even the opposition, including Kenneth Okonkwo, called the President illegitimate, it is only Aisha and that’s because she is ignorant and doesn’t know what the law is,” Bwala said.
He argued that once an election dispute had been taken to the highest court and the court upheld the election, the judgment should be accepted as final.
“Even if a person won an election that is flawed, and that election is litigated to the highest court of the land whose decision is final in all authorities and they said that the election was valid, from that moment you should back away,” he stated.
When asked directly whether he had ever made a similar comment about Tinubu in the past, Bwala insisted that he had not.
“I never called the President illegitimate,” he said, challenging anyone with evidence to prove otherwise.
“If you have it, pull it out,” Bwala added.
