Veteran Nollywood actor Sunday Afolabi has opened up about the financial struggles he faced after relocating to Badagry, saying the move affected his acting career and forced him to take up other jobs to survive.


Afolabi made the revelation during an emotional interview with Biola Adebayo on the Talk to B podcast, where he spoke about his journey from being a familiar face on television to struggling to make ends meet.

The actor explained that he moved to Badagry because he wanted to own a house. 

However, he said the decision came with setbacks as acting and photography jobs became difficult to find.

According to him, he eventually could no longer afford to repair his Nissan Quest, leaving the vehicle unused for almost two years. 

With little income coming in, he decided to sell the car and use the money to buy a fairly used motorcycle.

Afolabi said he sold his Nissan Quest for just N180,000 before buying the motorcycle, despite not being familiar with riding one.

He revealed that his experience with the motorcycle was difficult, as he suffered multiple accidents after repeatedly falling while trying to use it.

The veteran actor became emotional while recalling how the situation affected his wife and children, as he struggled to provide for his family during the difficult period.

Afolabi also recalled meeting a man who recognised him as a television actor but was surprised to see him struggling financially. 

The man reportedly advised him to return to the city and reconnect with people who could help him.

Despite his situation, Afolabi said he does not want to depend on begging for food and would rather take up any legitimate job that would enable him to support himself and his family.

The actor added that he is ready to work and would be willing to use a good vehicle for Uber if one is made available to him.

Following the emotional account, Biola Adebayo appealed to members of the public to support the veteran actor. 

She said she hopes to use the Talk to B platform to help Afolabi secure a car, improve his living conditions and find a sustainable means of livelihood.
