‘If You Earn Below N300k In FCT, You’re No Different From An Almajiri’ — Abuja Politician.

An Abuja-based politician, Austin Okai, has sparked controversy online after claiming that residents of the Federal Capital Territory earning less than N300,000 monthly are barely different from Almajiris.

Okai made the statement in a Facebook post while commenting on the rising cost of living and the declining purchasing power of the naira.

According to the politician, workers earning below N300,000 in Abuja struggle to maintain a decent standard of living due to the high cost of accommodation, food and transportation in the nation’s capital.

He argued that the only major difference between such salary earners and Almajiris is the plate traditionally used by some Almajiris to solicit money.

“If your salary is not up to at least 300k in Abuja, the difference between you and Almajiri is just the plate. Business better alternative now. Our currency is destroyed,” Okai wrote.

The comment has generated reactions online, with some Nigerians agreeing that the rising cost of living has significantly reduced the value of workers’ salaries, while others criticised the comparison as insensitive.
