Bandits have allegedly killed a Kaduna businessman, identified as Mallam Auwal, despite collecting N12 million ransom from his family.
Auwal was reportedly abducted from his residence at Hayin Babban Saura Police Quarters in Kaduna State.
According to reports, his family managed to raise the ransom demanded by the kidnappers in an effort to secure his release. However, the bandits allegedly killed him after receiving the money and subsequently claimed that they had buried his remains.
The kidnappers also reportedly abducted Auwal’s son, who had personally delivered the ransom to them in a bid to secure his father’s freedom.
The son remains in captivity, with the family and community appealing for his safe release.
A Salatul Gha'ib, or funeral prayer in absentia, was held for Auwal at Murtala Square in Kaduna on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
Family members, neighbours and community leaders gathered at the prayer to mourn the deceased and pray for the safe return of his son.
The incident has further heightened concerns over the activities of bandits and kidnappers in Kaduna State, particularly the growing cases of victims being harmed despite families meeting ransom demands.
