Pastor David Ibiyeomie has urged Christians to place greater emphasis on God’s love, compassion and the hope offered through Jesus when preaching to Nigerians. The clergyman made the remarks during a sermon, where he suggested that messages centred heavily on hell may not always resonate with people facing difficult circumstances.
According to him, many Nigerians already perceive the hardships they experience in their daily lives as a form of “hell”, making messages focused on condemnation less likely to have the desired impact.
Ibiyeomie encouraged Christians to instead communicate a message of hope, telling people that Jesus loves them and can transform their circumstances.
“Tell them Jesus loves you. He can change your story,” he said.
The pastor’s comments highlight his view that preaching should connect with people’s everyday struggles while pointing them towards faith, hope and the possibility of a better future through Christ.
