Abdullahi, who had previously publicly reaffirmed his loyalty to Kwankwaso after falling out with Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, announced his resignation from the NDC in a letter addressed to the party chairman of Kofar Ruwa Ward in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.
The politician cited frustration over what he described as “failed promises” within the NDC as the reason for his decision to leave the party.
Abdullahi said he had supported Kwankwaso for about 29 years but claimed that his loyalty had not translated into the benefits or recognition he expected.
“I have been with Kwankwaso for 29 years but have only benefited from failed promises. I will go to where I will be respected more,” he said.
Following his defection, Abdullahi declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election under the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His move represents another shift in political allegiance within Kano, where Kwankwasiyya remains a major political force and the 2027 elections are expected to generate intense political realignments.
