Man, 23, Faces Court Over Alleged Cutlass Attack That Killed Mother In Ondo State.

 

A 23-year-old man, Akuade Samuel, has been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State for allegedly killing his mother, Akuade Olufunke, with a cutlass.

Samuel was arraigned on a murder charge before Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi.

The prosecutor, Taiwo Oniyeye, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on August 6, 2026, around noon at the Power Line area of Ore, Ondo State.

The prosecution alleged that Samuel used a cutlass to attack his mother on the neck, resulting in her death.

The charge stated that Samuel “unlawfully used a cutlass to cut the neck” of his mother, an act which allegedly resulted in her death.

The prosecution said the alleged offence contravened Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Oniyeye urged the court to remand the defendant to enable him forward the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

However, counsel to the defendant, A.D. Obademi, urged the court to grant a short adjournment to enable him file an affidavit in response to the prosecution’s application.

The court subsequently adjourned the case until August 31, 2026, for hearing of the application for remand.
