Former senator Ben Murray-Bruce has urged President Bola Tinubu to appoint more bold and unconventional people into his administration to help drive reforms and improve governance in Nigeria.
Murray-Bruce made the call in an open letter to Tinubu published on his X account on Wednesday.
The former Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant said his support for the Tinubu administration would not stop him from offering honest criticism and making suggestions that could help the government perform better.
He said supporting a government should not mean blindly agreeing with everything it does, adding that leaders need people around them who can speak openly about problems and offer fresh ideas.
According to Murray-Bruce, Nigeria needs officials who are willing to challenge old practices, confront powerful interests and push through reforms that may be difficult to implement.
He described such people as “mad men”, referring to individuals who are bold enough to take unusual steps, question established systems and focus on achieving results rather than simply following existing practices.
Murray-Bruce said some advisers and officials may become too comfortable or afraid to tell the President difficult truths, making it necessary to have people around him who can offer independent views.
He urged Tinubu to consider bringing more courageous individuals into government who can challenge inefficient systems and pursue measurable results.
The former senator said the country could benefit from officials who are prepared to take risks, think differently and confront obstacles standing in the way of effective governance.
He added that his advice was coming from a desire to see the administration succeed and produce better outcomes for Nigerians.
Murray-Bruce's position comes amid continuing calls for reforms in government and greater efficiency in the management of the country's affairs.
