The Federal Government has directed the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to deploy a dedicated team to the United Kingdom to ease the processing and issuance of passports to Nigerians living in the country.
The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, issued the directive as part of efforts to improve passport services for Nigerians in the diaspora.
According to a statement issued by the NIS Public Relations Department in Abuja, the Comptroller-General of the Service, Mrs Kemi Nanna Nandap, was directed to select the intervention team from the NIS headquarters.
The team was scheduled to arrive in the UK on August 10, 2026, and will work with the Nigerian High Commission to facilitate the processing and issuance of pending, new and renewal passport applications.
As part of the exercise, the NIS team will visit designated cities across the UK to conduct passport enrolment and processing, enabling eligible applicants in different locations to access the service.
The intervention is open to Nigerians with pending passport applications, new applicants and holders of passports with less than one year remaining before expiry who wish to renew their documents.
“Applicants are to present their completed application forms and proof of payment during enrolment,” the NIS said.
The Service said the full schedule, including the designated cities, dates, venues, enrolment times and other arrangements, would be announced separately.
It advised applicants not to visit any location until the official schedule has been released and urged them to monitor the official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission in the UK for updates.
For enquiries and complaints, applicants can contact the NIS through passport.london@immigration.gov.ng or its WhatsApp-only line on +234 916 087 8000.
The NIS also clarified that its digital passport application channels, including the Contactless Passport Application System, remain operational throughout the intervention.
The home delivery service will equally remain available to applicants.
The Service said the initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to provide more efficient, transparent and responsive passport services to Nigerians both within the country and abroad.
