The National Youth Service Corps has warned corps members and the public to ignore a fake redeployment notice circulating on social media, saying it did not issue the message.
The scheme made the clarification on Friday through its verified X account after a viral post claimed that a special redeployment window had been opened for corps members because of security, health and other national concerns.
The fake notice, titled "Urgent Notice: NYSC Redeployment," urged corps members with genuine reasons to apply immediately. It also asked applicants to contact two phone numbers for assistance and claimed that applications would be processed in line with NYSC guidelines.
Reacting to the message, the NYSC described it as false and shared the notice with a bold "Fake News" watermark to alert the public.
The scheme did not identify those responsible for creating or circulating the false notice.
The warning follows several cases in which fraudsters have used fake redeployment offers to deceive corps members and their families into paying money for services that do not exist.
The NYSC reminded corps members that all deployment and redeployment matters are handled only through its official portal and recognised offices. It added that it does not approve agents or phone-based processing for redeployment requests.
The agency advised corps members and the general public to always confirm any information about the scheme through its official website and verified social media accounts before acting on it or making any payment.
