The campaign council of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has denied claims that the governor has a political agreement with President Bola Tinubu following his re-election in the state.
The council, in a statement posted on X by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said Adeleke’s support for Tinubu was based on the President’s performance and economic reforms, rather than any pre-arranged political deal.
The statement followed a congratulatory message from the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, after Adeleke emerged victorious in the August 15 governorship election.
In his message, Keyamo had remarked, “Agreement is agreement,” prompting reactions from members of the public, with some interpreting the comment as confirmation of a private political pact between Adeleke and Tinubu.
However, Adeleke’s campaign council dismissed the speculation, insisting that there was no such agreement between the governor and the President.
The council also cautioned against attempts to undermine the mandate given to Adeleke by Osun voters during the election.
“Do not undermine the resilience of Osun people. There is no agreement,” the council stated.
It added that Adeleke’s support for Tinubu was based on the President’s performance and reforms which, according to the council, had strengthened the economic position of states.
Adeleke was declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), securing 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 444,815 votes.
