The singer made the announcement on social media on Thursday, August 20, revealing that the marriage actually ended a year ago.
Ekiye explained that he deliberately waited before making the separation public, saying he needed time to gain perspective, clarity and acceptance of the deeply personal transition.
In a statement, he said the couple had shared “a deeply personal journey of growth, experience and reflection” over their 28 years together.
“After 28 years of a deeply personal journey of growth, experience and reflection, I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to KUNEMOFA ASU has come to an end,” he wrote.
The gospel singer described the marriage as an important chapter of his life and said he had chosen to close it with grace, gratitude and dignity.
“Some chapters, however significant and memorable, eventually come to an end. I choose to close this chapter with grace, gratitude and dignity, while looking ahead to the possibilities of a new season,” he added.
Ekiye stressed that the marriage ended in 2025 but said he chose to announce it publicly only after allowing sufficient time for the situation to settle.
“For the avoidance of doubt, this marriage ended a year ago. I have deliberately chosen to make this announcement only now, after allowing time to bring the perspective, clarity and quiet acceptance that such a deeply personal transition deserves,” he said.
