Henry Okoye, elder brother of Nigerian music duo P-Square, has accused the group’s former manager and their brother, Jude Okoye, of playing a central role in the longstanding rift within the family.
Henry made the allegations during an interview on Friday night, August 7, claiming that Jude’s actions and conduct contributed significantly to the breakdown of relationships among the siblings.
He also alleged that their late mother had initially opposed the idea of Jude managing P-Square, saying she had concerns about his character.
Henry disputed claims that Jude was responsible for building the duo’s music career, maintaining that the family had supported Peter and Paul from the early days of their musical journey.
According to him, the twins initially struggled to secure financial backing and relied on support from members of their family as they travelled between states performing and promoting their music.
“When they started this music, they were looking for sponsors. They didn’t get a sponsor. When I started sponsoring them, Jude was not there,” Henry said.
He added that he provided his car for promotional activities and sometimes worked as a bodyguard for the duo during their early performances.
Henry said Jude later became involved in managing the group after Peter and Paul had begun making progress in the industry.
He alleged that the family had considered allowing Jude to take over management but that their mother objected.
“Before you could know it, Jude came in. We wanted to allow Jude to manage them, but my mum disagreed. She said she knew the kind of character Jude had,” he alleged.
Henry further claimed that the relationship between the twins and other members of the family deteriorated after Jude became involved in their management.
“What happened at last is that they started running away from everybody. We never knew that it was Jude that was causing the problem,” he said.
He also claimed that he had been promised 20 per cent of the duo’s earnings from each show in recognition of his financial and other support during their early years.
Henry alleged that the arrangement later became a source of disagreement between him and Jude, who, according to him, questioned the basis of the proposed payment.
He further claimed that Jude eventually distanced himself from him and other members of the family, including their younger sister.
Henry said he and Jude had not spoken to each other for between one and two years.
The latest allegations add to the public dispute surrounding the Okoye family, which has previously attracted considerable attention because of the strained relationship between P-Square’s twin members, Peter and Paul Okoye, and other members of the family.
