The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the death of one person and injuries to several others following a violent clash between youths from Buskuwa and Mabani villages in the Gamawa Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly began on Monday night, August 24, after three youths from Mabani village were allegedly attacked by suspected youths from Buskuwa.
The victims, identified as Babangida Musa, 20, Usman Abdu, 20, and Ya’u Muhammad, 18, were said to have been attacked with sticks at about 8pm while on their way to Buskuwa village.
Police spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, said the three victims sustained varying degrees of injury during the attack.
According to him, the incident later escalated into a reprisal attack after a man identified as Jumba Adamu allegedly mobilised youths from Mabani to Buskuwa, where residents were reportedly attacked with sticks.
During the violence, one of the victims, identified as Muhammadu Dare, was reportedly killed on the spot, while several others sustained injuries.
Habib said operatives of the Gamawa Division, working alongside local hunters and vigilantes, were immediately deployed to the area to restore order.
The injured victims and the deceased were evacuated to the General Hospital in Gamawa for treatment and post-mortem examination.
“The attending medical doctor certified the deceased dead. Three victims were admitted and are currently receiving treatment, while three others were treated and discharged,” the police spokesperson said.
He added that a suspect linked to the incident had been arrested, while efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend other persons involved in the violence.
Habib said preliminary investigations had commenced and that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution once the inquiry is concluded.
