The 2026/27 Premier League season is set to begin with an unprecedented managerial shake-up, with nine of the division’s 20 clubs starting the campaign under new leadership.
The figure represents the highest number of pre-season managerial appointments in Premier League history, highlighting the scale of change ahead of the new campaign.
Newcastle United’s appointment of Matthias Jaissle completed the record tally following Eddie Howe’s departure. The 38-year-old German takes charge at St James’ Park after a successful spell with Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli, where he guided the club to major silverware.
Jaissle’s arrival presents an opportunity for Newcastle to build on their recent progress while establishing a new managerial identity.
The extensive changes are expected to make the upcoming campaign one of the most unpredictable in recent Premier League history, with several established clubs beginning the season under fresh management.
The new campaign officially gets under way on Friday, 21 August, when reigning champions Arsenal host newly promoted Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium.
All 20 clubs have now finalised their managerial arrangements ahead of the opening weekend.
Mikel Arteta remains at Arsenal, while Unai Emery continues at Aston Villa. Marco Rose takes charge at Bournemouth, Keith Andrews leads Brentford and Fabian Hürzeler remains in charge at Brighton & Hove Albion.
Chelsea begin a new era under Xabi Alonso, while Frank Lampard takes charge of promoted Coventry City. Pierre Sage leads Crystal Palace, David Moyes remains at Everton and Álvaro Arbeloa takes over at Fulham.
Promoted Hull City will be led by Sergej Jakirović, while Gary O’Neil remains at Ipswich Town and Daniel Farke continues at Leeds United. Andoni Iraola takes charge at Liverpool, with Enzo Maresca leading Manchester City.
Michael Carrick remains at Manchester United, while Jaissle begins his tenure at Newcastle. Oliver Glasner continues at Nottingham Forest, Régis Le Bris remains at Sunderland and Roberto De Zerbi takes charge of Tottenham Hotspur.
With nine clubs entering the campaign with new managers, the 2026/27 season promises to bring a significant change in the Premier League dugouts from the opening weekend.
