Real Warri Pikin Cancels Warri Show Over ‘Divisions’ In Delta.

Popular comedian Anita Asuoha, better known as Real Warri Pikin, has cancelled her forthcoming show in Warri, Delta State, citing what she described as “unfortunate divisions” within the society.

The comedian announced the cancellation in a statement and video shared on Instagram, expressing disappointment over what she described as persistent divisions in a state where unity should prevail.

In the video, Real Warri Pikin said being an entertainer from Delta State had become “very exhausting” because of what she described as tribal divisions involving different ethnic groups in the state.

“The disunity in my state is very tiring, especially amongst the Ijaws, the Urhobos, the Itsekiris,” she said.

While acknowledging the need for people to stand up for what is right, she questioned the use of violence and what she described as oppression.

“I am not saying don't fight for what is right, but does it have to always be violent? Does it have to be oppression?” she said.

The comedian also claimed that she had experienced bullying and oppression in Delta State over the past eight years.

She said disagreements over the identity and history of Warri had contributed to tensions surrounding her planned show.

“Growing up, everywhere was called Warri. Now things are changing, people are reclaiming their lands. It’s OK, but why do you have to bring me down because I made a mistake?” she said.

Real Warri Pikin claimed she had been asked to remove promotional materials for the event, including billboards, social media posts, radio jingles and roll-up banners.

“They said I should take down the billboards, social media posts, the radio jingles, take down the roll-up banners. They wrote a petition,” she said.

She further alleged that she had been warned that the show would not be allowed to go ahead and that some individuals had threatened to disrupt the event.

The comedian also said she had been asked to remove “Warri” from her stage name.

“Some other set are saying, ‘Even the Warri in my name I should remove it,’” she said.

Real Warri Pikin did not provide further details about those she said were behind the demands or threats in the statement announcing the cancellation.
