Soludo Says Onitsha Monday Traffic Shows Sit-At-Home Is Fading.

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has said the heavy traffic witnessed in Onitsha on Monday indicates that the long-running sit-at-home practice in the state is gradually coming to an end.

Soludo made the statement after arriving late at the Delta State Economic Summit in Asaba, Delta State, where he explained that traffic congestion in Onitsha delayed his movement by about 15 minutes.

The governor said seeing busy roads and commercial activities in Onitsha on a Monday was a sign that residents were returning to their normal routines.

Earlier in the year, the Anambra State Government stated that there was no official order for residents to observe Monday sit-at-home and warned traders and transport operators against shutting their businesses without valid reasons.

Soludo said the return of business activities in the commercial city was a result of efforts by his administration to rebuild confidence and restore economic activities across the state.

He also called on Nigerians to patronise locally produced goods, saying increased demand for Nigerian-made products would help industries grow, create employment opportunities and improve incomes.

The governor revealed that he adopted Akwete fabric as his preferred clothing style after his daughter introduced it to him in 2019, adding that the move had supported women involved in the weaving industry.

He further mentioned the recent N2 billion support announced for the Akwete community, saying such investments would help expand local production and encourage more Nigerians to embrace indigenous products.

Soludo said wider use of locally made goods across the country would contribute to job creation and reduce dependence on imported items.
