The newly elected Executive Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area and first son of the Minister of Works, 28yrs old Engr. Osborne Nweze Umahi, has said he would not be collecting or receiving any form renumerations as Chairman.
Speaking
after his victory at the election, Osborne Umahi said he would not collect
salary or allowances throughout his tenure, stressing that his decision to seek
public office was driven by a desire to contribute to the development of
Ohaozara rather than personal financial gain.
Engr.
Osborn Nweze Umahi, emerged Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area of
Ebonyi State following the local government election in the state.
Umahi, contested the election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged as the party’s candidate earlier this year before going on to win the council poll.
His
emergence attracted attention, particularly because of his age and his pledge
to adopt a development-focused approach to local government administration.
He pledged
to prioritise infrastructure development, youth empowerment, economic
opportunities and improved service delivery across communities in the local
government area.
Umahi is
the son of the Minister of Works and former Governor of Ebonyi State, Senator
David Umahi.
The
younger Umahi had during his campaigns presented himself as a new-generation
politician seeking to combine private-sector experience with public-sector
administration.
His
emergence is expected to heighten expectations among residents, particularly
over the improvement of roads, employment opportunities and access to essential
public services across Ohaozara.
