The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate while allegedly attempting to withdraw ransom proceeds at a Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal in Ilorin East Local Government Area.
The suspect, identified as Muhamodu Sanni, was arrested at a POS location following intelligence gathering by police operatives investigating the abduction of three people during an armed attack on Obudu Village on 28 July.
According to the statement, the investigation was expanded beyond the scene of the attack to include the communication, logistics and financial channels allegedly supporting the kidnapping operation.
The command said intelligence obtained in connection with the ransom transaction led operatives to Sanni, who was intercepted while allegedly attempting to cash out ransom proceeds linked to the abduction.
During interrogation, the police said, Sanni cooperated with investigators and provided information about his alleged role in the ransom collection process.
He also reportedly identified two other suspected members of the syndicate as Aminu and Umar.
The command said the information had strengthened its understanding of the alleged kidnapping network and provided additional leads for ongoing operations.
The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to disrupting criminal networks and urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to the police.
The police said investigations and efforts to apprehend other members of the suspected syndicate were continuing.
