A teenage boy and his parents have reportedly died after falling from a hill in India following an argument over a newly purchased mobile phone.
The tragic incident occurred at about 10 a.m. on Friday, August 21, at Khawadya Hill in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
According to The Indian Express, citing a police report, the teenager, identified as Kunal Chandgude, reportedly went to the hill after an argument with his parents over payment for a new mobile phone he had purchased.
His father, Murlidhar, 48, and mother, Sangita, reportedly followed him after he allegedly threatened to jump from the edge of the cliff.
Police officers and fire service personnel arrived at the scene and spent about three hours trying to persuade the teenager to step away from the edge and return home with his parents.
However, at about 1 p.m., Kunal allegedly jumped from the hill as his father moved closer in an attempt to bring him to safety.
Murlidhar reportedly fell to his death while trying to save his son.
The tragedy took an even more devastating turn when Sangita allegedly jumped after witnessing her husband and son fall.
The bodies of the three family members were later recovered by authorities and sent for post-mortem examination.
A witness, Sanjay Jadhav, told NDTV that the teenager's parents, other residents and security personnel had made repeated efforts to convince him to leave the edge of the hill.
“The parents and others tried very hard to make him understand, but he didn’t listen and kept standing on the edge of the hill. Police officials were also there,” Jadhav reportedly said.
He added that the teenager's mother repeatedly pleaded with him not to jump.
Reports said Kunal's parents had been living separately following the death of their eldest son from an illness six years earlier.
Sangita, who reportedly had more than 30,000 subscribers on YouTube, regularly shared mini-vlogs featuring her son.
A day before the tragic incident, she reportedly posted a video expressing frustration, saying there was “no point in doing anything for a person who does not value love”.
