‘They Stole The Election, Now The Economy’ — Atiku Attacks Those In Power

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has described the 2027 general election as a contest against “thieves”, accusing those currently in power of stealing both the election and the country’s economy.

In a video shared on his X handle, the former vice president said Nigeria’s political and economic challenges had worsened under the present administration.

“We are competing with thieves. They stole the election. Now they have stolen the economy. They have stolen everything,” Atiku said.

Atiku also reaffirmed his commitment to restoring the fuel subsidy if elected president in 2027, insisting that his position on the issue remained unchanged despite comments reportedly made by one of his aides.

The former vice president argued that the removal of the petrol subsidy had pushed more Nigerians into poverty and hardship, stressing that it was the responsibility of government to protect the welfare of its citizens.

According to him, Nigeria has sufficient resources to provide relief for its citizens through measures such as fuel subsidies.
