The development was announced on Thursday by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice-President. According to the statement, President Bola Tinubu approved the leave.
Nkwocha said the Vice-President would use the period for study, reflection and intellectual renewal to strengthen his capacity for public service. The leave is also expected to provide an opportunity to review the administration's ongoing programmes, deepen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for future responsibilities as the Federal Government continues to implement its Renewed Hope Agenda.
Since assuming office, Shettima has overseen and coordinated a range of government initiatives, including those focused on economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.
He has also chaired meetings of the National Economic Council (NEC), which brings together the governors of Nigeria's 36 states, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other senior public officials to discuss economic policy and matters affecting citizens' welfare.
The statement further noted that the Vice-President has represented President Tinubu at several regional and international engagements, promoting Nigeria's interests in areas including economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment and sustainable development.
According to the statement, Shettima remains committed to supporting the administration's objectives and is expected to resume his official duties at the end of the two-week leave period.
