‘We Believe He Did Not Score The Highest Votes’ — APC Challenges Adeleke’s Osun Victory.

The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress governorship campaign in Osun State, Oluwole Oke, has said the party will not be pressured into congratulating Governor Ademola Adeleke over his victory in the August 15 governorship election.

Oke stated this during an interview on ARISE News on Monday, August 17, saying the APC was still reviewing the election results and would decide on its next line of action after examining the records.

According to him, the party does not agree with the declaration made by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, which announced Adeleke as the winner of the election.

“And like I’ve told you that what we are doing, even for future records, is to conduct a thorough review of the entire process and then form our opinion.

“We won’t be under any sort of pressure to easily reach out to congratulate Senator Ademola Adeleke. We do not agree with the declaration of INEC. That’s our position for now. We believe he did not score the highest valid votes,” Oke said.

INEC had declared Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, winner of the governorship election after polling 511,067 votes.

The APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, came second with 444,815 votes, while the African Democratic Congress, ADC, candidate, Najeem Salaam, secured 17,180 votes to place third.

Adeleke won in 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11, giving the incumbent governor a margin of 66,252 votes.

Despite the declaration, the APC campaign organisation has maintained that it is dissatisfied with the outcome and will continue its review of the election process before deciding whether to challenge the result or take any other action.
