Ogun State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Solomon Adeola, has expressed grief over the death of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, recalling his efforts to support the actor’s medical treatment before his death.
Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, aged 66. The movie star battled stage-four cancer.
Adeola, also known as Yayi, said he and his wife, Temitope, stood by Ogogo and his family throughout his illness and made efforts to ensure he received appropriate medical attention.
In a tribute signed by the couple and shared on Facebook on Monday, Adeola said Ogogo’s death was painful, particularly after the actor’s “courageous battle” with illness and the widespread hopes and prayers for his recovery.
He said the family remained optimistic that the actor would survive the health challenge and return to his loved ones and admirers.
“During those difficult moments, we stood closely with him and his family, supporting his treatment and doing everything humanly possible to ensure that he received the necessary medical care.
“We remained hopeful and prayerful that he would overcome the illness and return to the family, friends and countless admirers who cherished him. Sadly, despite all efforts, it has pleased Almighty God to call him home. Indeed, God knows best,” the statement read.
Adeola described the late actor as a man whose significance went beyond his achievements in the entertainment industry, calling him a “dear brother” and a distinguished son of Ilaro and Ogun West.
He noted that Ogogo’s decades-long career had entertained generations while making a significant contribution to the development of Nigeria’s film industry.
“Alhaji Taiwo Hassan was more than an accomplished veteran of the entertainment industry to us; he was a dear brother and a proud son of Ilaro and Ogun West, whose remarkable career brought joy to generations and contributed immensely to the growth and development of the Nigerian film industry.
“His talent, humility and enduring body of work will ensure that his memory lives on,” Adeola said.
The senator condoled with Ogogo’s wife, children and other family members, as well as the people of Ilaro and Yewaland and the actor’s colleagues and associates in the entertainment industry.
Ogogo’s daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, had previously acknowledged Adeola’s assistance to their father during his illness.
