‘We Didn’t Go To Jail’ — Lionel Richie Throws Shade At Chris Brown, Usher.

 

Veteran singer Lionel Richie has taken a swipe at Chris Brown and Usher over their ongoing The R&B Tour, joking that the pair are not doing anything particularly new.

Richie made the remark during a recent performance while discussing the tour featuring Brown and Usher.

The 77-year-old singer, who is currently touring with Earth, Wind & Fire, noted that his former group, The Commodores, and Earth, Wind & Fire had also embarked on major tours decades ago.

However, he suggested that there was one major difference between their era and the current generation.

“Only difference is, between then and now, we didn’t go to jail!” Richie told the audience.

The veteran performer appeared to soften the comment with a smile before continuing with his performance.

While Usher has largely avoided serious legal controversies, Brown has faced several legal issues throughout his career.

Brown recently pleaded guilty to assaulting music producer Abraham Diaw at a nightclub in London. He was also convicted following his 2009 assault of singer Rihanna, receiving a five-year probation sentence and community service.

Meanwhile, Brown and Usher’s tour has generated considerable attention online, particularly over provocative performances involving fans.

Despite Richie’s comments, The R&B Tour has continued to attract significant interest, bringing together two of contemporary R&B’s biggest stars.

Richie’s reference to Brown’s legal history could, however, fuel further discussion given the singer’s history of responding publicly to criticism.
