Tinubu, represented by Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, made the remarks on Tuesday at the International Conference on Security and National Unity organised by Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) in collaboration with the Muslim World League.
The President said his administration remained committed to tackling Nigeria’s security challenges while strengthening efforts to promote peace through collaboration with other countries.
He said, “The government is determined to make sure that we remain united as a country, despite our differences, whatever the differences may be. We should talk and remain in this country, and allow this country to remain a united nation, a united country.”
Tinubu described the conference as timely, given the security challenges confronting Nigeria and other parts of the world.
He expressed confidence that discussions at the event would contribute to efforts aimed at achieving sustainable peace across Nigeria, Africa and the wider international community.
The President also commended the Muslim World League for partnering with JIBWIS and selecting Nigeria as the first country to host the international conference.
Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, cautioned political leaders against exploiting religious and ethnic differences for political gains.
Yilwatda warned that the politicisation of religion and ethnicity could further divide Nigerians and cause lasting damage to national unity.
He urged political leaders to promote issues capable of bringing citizens together rather than exploiting existing differences for political advantage.
