Buba made the controversial remarks at a campaign inauguration organised by the Tinubu City Boy Movement, a political support group backing President Bola Tinubu’s administration and his anticipated bid for re-election in 2027.
Addressing supporters at the event, the commissioner issued a series of threats against those he described as political opponents.
“Whoever shows us a finger, we are ready to cut off his fingers,” Buba said.
“We are now playing politics. Whoever shows us a finger, we will show him a finger. Whoever dares to show us a finger again, we will break his finger.”
The commissioner also appeared to suggest that access to government benefits could be used to reward supporters and punish those who refused to back the ruling party.
“The government is our government. Those who follow us will enjoy the honey; if you refuse, then you will be flogged,” he said.
The remarks have triggered widespread criticism, with concerns raised over the language of violence and the apparent suggestion that government resources or benefits could be used as political leverage.
Buba’s comments come as political activities intensify ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with various groups already mobilising support for political parties and potential candidates.
