World Record Holder Tobi Amusan Set For Athlos Track Series With $2.1m Prize Purse.

Nigerian sprint hurdler and world record holder, Tobi Amusan, has been confirmed to compete in the $2.1 million Athlos all-female track and field series in London and New York later this year.

Amusan, who holds the world record in the women's 100 metres hurdles, will compete in her specialist event at both legs of the competition.

The London event is scheduled for September 18, while the New York edition will take place on October 2.

Announcing her participation on Wednesday, the organisers said the Nigerian athlete would be competing in the 100 metres hurdles.

“The world record holder is coming to Athlos. Tobi is taking on what she does best, the 100m hurdles. Watch her compete this fall at ATHLOS LDN & NYC!!,” the organisers said.

Founded by Alexis Ohanian, Athlos features seven events: the 100m hurdles, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, mile and long jump.

The series offers a total prize purse of $2.1 million, with athletes able to earn up to $65,000 for winning an individual event and an additional $25,000 for claiming the overall title.

Athletes participating in the league will also be offered equity, allowing them to share in the potential future success of the competition.

Ohanian previously explained that the initiative was designed to create a stronger partnership between athletes and the league.

“The cash compensates their participation and success, and the equity recognises what we’re building together,” he said.

An athlete's combined points from the London and New York events will determine the overall winner in each discipline.

With victories in both cities and the overall title, an athlete could earn as much as $155,000.

Amusan will compete alongside several other global track and field stars, including Sha'Carri Richardson, Gabby Thomas, Tara Davis-Woodhall, Masai Russell and Marileidy Paulino, who have also been confirmed for the series.

The competition will provide another major international platform for Amusan as she prepares to test herself against some of the world's leading female athletes.
