X Ends Revenue Sharing, Launches New Creator Programme.

X has announced plans to end its current Revenue Sharing programme and replace it with a new system designed to pay creators for producing original content on the platform.

The social media company announced the change on Friday through its X Creators account, saying the new Original Content Rewards programme would focus on users who create fresh and useful material for the platform.

X has stopped accepting new applications for its existing Revenue Sharing programme. However, creators already enrolled in the scheme will continue to receive payments until September 7, 2026.

Existing participants are expected to receive three final payments. Two of the payments are scheduled for August 14 and August 28, while the last payment, covering earnings made up to September 7, is expected around September 11.

Creators already enrolled in the old programme will be able to apply for the new Original Content Rewards programme from September 8, provided they meet the required conditions.

The first payment under the new programme is scheduled for August 28, 2026. Existing Revenue Sharing creators who move to the new system from September 8 are expected to receive their first payment under the new arrangement on September 25.

Under the new system, eligible creators will earn money based on qualified impressions generated by their original posts. Payments will be made every two weeks.

X said qualified impressions will be based on unique views from Premium users on the Home Timeline, provided at least half of the post is visible to the user.

Repeated views from the same account on one post will not count. Paid or promoted views, artificially created impressions and fraudulent activity will also be excluded from the payment system.

Creators seeking to join the programme must be at least 18 years old and live in a country where the scheme is available. Their accounts must also remain in good standing, and they must operate either a personal or business account.

They will also need an X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business subscription. In addition, applicants must have at least 500 verified followers and record a minimum of 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users within the previous 90 days.

Creators will also be expected to post original material regularly in order to remain eligible for payments.

The new programme will cover different forms of content, including videos, threads, memes, graphics, illustrations, news reports, analysis, commentary and reactions, as long as the material adds value to discussions on the platform.

Creators who use material produced by other people may still qualify if they add their own useful commentary, explanation, analysis, humour or creative changes.

Simply reposting another person's work will not be enough to qualify for rewards. X also said basic changes such as cropping, adding filters, borders, watermarks, adjusting speed or placing simple text over existing content would generally not be treated as meaningful transformation.

Content copied or largely reproduced from another creator will not qualify. The same applies to material downloaded from X or another platform and uploaded again by someone who is not the original creator.

Automated posts, false or misleading information and other content that breaches the programme's rules will also be excluded.

X said creators who break the rules could lose access to the programme temporarily or permanently, depending on the nature and seriousness of the violation.

Creators will also be responsible for making sure they have the proper rights, permission or licences before using material created by other people.

The company said the new reward system is aimed at supporting people who bring their own ideas, knowledge, creativity and views to conversations on X.

The platform's move marks a change in how it plans to reward creators, shifting attention from the previous revenue-sharing model towards original material and the value creators bring through their own work.
