Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, has accepted his appointment as Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election.
Yari accepted the role after President Bola Tinubu approved the composition of the APC Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general election.
The senator expressed appreciation to Tinubu and the APC leadership for the confidence placed in him, saying he was ready to take up the responsibility.
The Presidency announced the formation of the campaign council in a statement issued on Saturday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Under the arrangement, Yari will serve as Director-General, while Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, was appointed Secretary of the council.
President Tinubu will serve as Chairman of the council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima will occupy the position of Vice-Chairman I.
The expanded campaign council has 223 members drawn from different parts of the country and various sections of the APC.
Yari said he accepted the appointment with a strong sense of responsibility and gratitude, while thanking the president, the party and its leaders for trusting him with the role.
He said the 2027 campaign would focus on engaging Nigerians across the states and communities on the direction of the country and the future being pursued by the administration.
The former governor also pledged to run the campaign with discipline, unity and respect for Nigerians regardless of their political affiliations.
Yari said preparations for the campaign would begin immediately, adding that the APC would work to win the confidence of voters through its record in office.
He further called on Nigerians to support progress and avoid political divisions as the party prepares for the 2027 election.
The senator expressed confidence that the APC would secure victory in the January 2027 election with the support and efforts of party members across the country.
