Actor Mary Njoku Decries ‘Silence’ After More Than 30 Young Men Reportedly Die In Custody.

 

Nollywood actor and ROK Studios boss Mary Njoku has expressed frustration over what she described as the growing normalisation of tragedies and lack of accountability in Nigeria.

Njoku, in a post shared online, lamented that Nigerians had become so accustomed to reports of disturbing incidents that many no longer expected those responsible to be held accountable.

She cited concerns over the alleged use of dyes in food preparation, reports of unsafe products and the deaths of more than 30 young men in the custody of authorities.

“Not just that terrible things are happening. But that we are becoming so used to them that we no longer expect anyone to be held accountable,” she wrote.

“People are cooking with dye. Our children might be drinking poison disguised as juice.

“And NAFDAC Mummy’s laughing at us.

“Now, over 30 young men have died in the custody of the authorities.

“Again, we are already moving on to the next tragedy.

“Another hashtag. Another outrage. Another demand for justice. And then silence.

“This is not normal. I am just tired, I guess.”

Njoku has repeatedly spoken out on social issues and expressed concern over insecurity, governance and the state of various sectors in the country.

During heightened concerns over the abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State, she questioned whether Nigerians had become numb to the continued reports of banditry, kidnapping and insecurity.

The filmmaker has also criticised the state of Nigeria’s creative industry, arguing that sectors that should be competing globally often remain focused on local rivalries rather than building together.

In another post, she questioned the practicality of owning expensive cars in Lagos in the face of persistent traffic congestion, while also speaking about what she described as the growing distraction among young people.

Njoku has likewise used her platform to encourage self-love, personal growth and continuous learning, urging people not to allow public expectations or their success to limit their potential.

Her latest comments come amid renewed public concern over several incidents across the country and calls for greater accountability from relevant authorities.
