Security operatives in Anambra State have arrested a 32-year-old woman, Ogechi Ofoma, following the alleged severe abuse of her seven-year-old daughter, Oluebube Ofoma, in the Obosi area of Idemili North Local Government Area.
The young girl was rescued on Sunday, September 13, 2026, after concerned residents and local security personnel from the Ibollo Community in Awada-Obosi intervened upon discovering the alleged mistreatment.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday.
According to Ikenga, the command received reports regarding the alleged child abuse and severe bodily injuries on Sunday evening. Preliminary investigations indicate that the child was subjected to intense physical abuse, which allegedly included injuries inflicted using a hot knife.
Thanks to the swift intervention of community members and local security, the victim was pulled away from further harm, and the suspect was taken into custody as police launched an immediate investigation.
Ikenga assured the public that the investigation will be thorough, professional, and uncompromising, emphasizing that the child's safety, welfare, and best interests remain the primary focus of the command.
