The command said it had become aware of online comments suggesting that some individuals were planning to contribute money towards securing the suspect’s release or influencing the legal process.
The warning was issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who said such comments had now become part of the police investigation.
Ikenga said the information could help investigators identify other individuals who may be connected to the alleged crime.
“We saw comments that some people are contributing money to look for a way to secure the release of the Nigerian mother who sexually abused her seven-year-old daughter and used her to create adult content. But we assure Nigerians that under our watch, we won’t allow it to happen,” he said.
The police spokesperson also described the allegations as potentially involving a wider network, saying investigators would pursue any leads that emerged from the case.
“These comments also form part of our investigation. At least, it has shown that there are some persons behind what the woman is doing,” Ikenga said.
He added that based on information allegedly provided by the suspect, investigators were examining the possibility of a syndicate being involved.
“From the revelation of the woman, you would observe it's a syndicate crime and if need be, we will partner with our colleagues in the international community,” he said.
The police warning followed claims by Delta State-based activist Joe Isreal, who alleged that some wealthy foreign individuals linked to the purchase of child sexual abuse material were attempting to raise funds in connection with the case.
Isreal further alleged that the funds could be used to engage a Senior Advocate of Nigeria to influence the narrative and obstruct the investigation.
The claims have not been independently established, while the police said any information relating to possible fundraising or individuals connected to the alleged crime would be considered as part of the ongoing investigation.
The case has continued to attract public attention, with the police maintaining that efforts would be made to identify all individuals allegedly involved and ensure that the investigation is not compromised.
