Nigerian singer Abiola Ahmed Akinbiyi, popularly known as Bella Shmurda, has revealed that he once stole a bicycle during the early stages of his music career to raise money for studio recording sessions.
The Afro-street singer made the disclosure during an interview on Echo Room TV, where he reflected on the challenges he faced while trying to establish himself in the Nigerian music industry.
Bella Shmurda said the incident occurred while he was living in Okokomaiko, Lagos, as he struggled to raise funds to pay for studio sessions.
According to him, he stole a boy’s bicycle and later sold it at Alaba International Market for N7,000.
“When we lived in Okoko, I once stole a boy’s bicycle and sold it at Alaba for N7,000 to pay for studio sessions,” he said.
The singer described the incident as a painful memory and a point of personal reflection.
He added that after achieving financial stability, he eventually traced the owner and made amends by buying him a replacement bicycle.
Bella Shmurda rose to mainstream prominence in 2019 following his breakthrough collaboration with rapper Olamide, which helped establish him as a notable figure in Nigeria’s music industry.
