Brazilian influencer Duda Alves, whose real name was Maria Eduarda Alves, has died at the age of 22, weeks after undergoing breast reduction surgery.
Her death was confirmed by local authorities, while friends and relatives have paid tribute to the social media personality following her passing.
Alves was buried at São João Paulo II Parish in Brasília, Brazil, on September 15.
The influencer had amassed more than 800,000 followers across TikTok and Instagram, where she regularly shared aspects of her daily life, videos with her partner and other lifestyle content.
According to the Civil Police of the Federal District, Alves’ death is being investigated as a suicide. Authorities, however, declined to provide further details, citing the need to protect the privacy of her family.
Days before her death, Alves had spoken publicly about her experience following the breast reduction procedure.
In a TikTok video posted on September 9, she discussed criticism she had received from what she described as “sleazy men” over her decision to undergo the surgery. She explained that she had chosen the procedure for reasons relating to comfort and aesthetics.
A day earlier, Alves revealed that it had been three weeks since the operation and described experiencing significant difficulties during her recovery.
She said she had been in “a lot of pain”, adding that she had been “vomiting a lot and crying from the pain constantly” following the procedure.
Following her death, tributes have poured in from friends and family members who remembered her personality and the memories they shared with her.
Her cousin, Geovana Alves, described the 19 years they spent knowing each other as the “best 19 years of my life”, recalling their laughter, disagreements, secrets, trips and conversations.
“I will never forget everything we lived through. Every memory we shared will be kept in the most beautiful place in my heart,” she wrote.
“I hope you know how much you were loved. How much you are loved. And that, somehow, you can feel all the love that remains here.”
Another friend, Clarissa Pavie, paid tribute to Alves’ character, describing her “inner beauty” as something that was so great “that it overflowed”.
She recalled the privilege of sharing several years of her life with Alves and said she was grateful for the memories they created together.
“Thank you for changing my life and for holding my hand when I needed you,” Pavie wrote.
