The attacks reportedly occurred between Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2026, leaving residents in the affected communities fearful and disrupting church activities.
On Saturday evening, suspected gunmen reportedly attacked a vehicle carrying passengers travelling towards Gana-Ropp in Barkin-Ladi, killing six people and injuring others.
A resident, Ukasha Garba, who witnessed the incident, said the victims were residents of Gana-Ropp travelling to a neighbouring community to work on a farm.
In the early hours of Sunday, a pastor of the Baptist Church, his secretary and another person were reportedly ambushed and shot dead while travelling to church in Dorowa Babuje, also in Barkin-Ladi.
The killings reportedly forced some churches in neighbouring communities to suspend services, as residents feared further attacks.
Separately, a woman was reportedly killed on Saturday night at Beaten Wereng in Riyom Local Government Area, while another person was also reportedly killed in Ratyidiin Fan District.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the attacks and described them as worrisome and unacceptable.
“We condemn these attacks in the strongest terms and call on security agencies to urgently strengthen their presence in the affected communities. The killing of innocent people must stop,” Tengwong said.
He lamented that the fresh attacks had heightened fear among residents and stressed that communities should not continue to lose their people to violence.
Tengwong called for an immediate investigation into the incidents, as well as the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
He also urged residents to remain calm and vigilant while appealing to security agencies to take proactive measures to prevent further attacks and protect lives and property.
Meanwhile, tension remained high in parts of Barkin-Ladi following the killings, with some residents reportedly fleeing the area after renewed gunshots were heard from the direction of Kantoma.
