Iranian Blogger Allegedly Sentenced To Death Over Claims Of Insulting Supreme Leader.

Iranian influencer and blogger Marzieh ‘Sevda’ Ebrahimi Shamsabadi has reportedly been sentenced to death after being convicted over allegations including insulting Iran’s Supreme Leader and carrying out activities deemed a threat to national security.

Ebrahimi Shamsabadi, 33, is reportedly being held at Bandar Abbas Prison following her arrest earlier this year.

According to reports by Iran International and the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), she was convicted by Branch 3 of the Bandar Abbas Revolutionary Court and sentenced to death for what Iranian authorities described as “corruption on earth”.

She was reportedly also accused of conducting media and propaganda activities against national security, carrying out intelligence and security activities on behalf of “hostile governments” and insulting the country’s Supreme Leader.

Another allegation against her involved a photograph she was said to have taken from a distance of a site struck by a missile. Authorities reportedly alleged that she sent the image to a Persian-language media organisation based outside Iran.

Before her arrest, Ebrahimi Shamsabadi reportedly shared a final message with her followers, writing: “If one day I leave this world, just know one thing – I chose the path I believed in.”

Reports said the accompanying caption indicated that she was prepared to die for her opposition to the authorities.

In addition to the death sentence, Ebrahimi Shamsabadi was reportedly handed prison terms ranging from two to five years in connection with other charges.

The court also allegedly ordered the confiscation of her property and barred her from accessing certain government and public services.

Her lawyer was reportedly notified of the death sentence on August 23, with the judgment said to have been delivered by Judge Khajeh-Hassani.

The allegations and reported sentence could not be independently verified from the information provided.
