Fayose made the comments while appearing on News Central TV, following Wike’s recent assertion that the opposition lacked sufficient popularity in the nation’s capital.
Wike had described the 2027 contest as a straightforward one and said President Bola Tinubu would win both Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.
Fayose disagreed with the assessment, insisting that the political environment in Abuja was favourable to Obi and the NDC.
“Abuja is NDC, Abuja is Peter Obi,” he said.
Fayose also raised concerns about the conduct of the election, alleging that attempts could be made to manipulate the process or results.
He said the NDC was working on strategies to guard against any alleged attempt to interfere with the electoral process.
“People are ready to vote. All we are scared of now is what angle are they going to suppress us from this time? This is the only area we are trying to fine-tune,” Fayose said.
He urged Nigerians to engage people directly about their preferred candidates and suggested that opinion polling and mock elections could provide an indication of voter preferences before election day.
“Go to the street and try to talk to one or two people. Ask them, ‘Who are you going to vote for?’” he said.
He added that countries with established electoral systems sometimes conduct mock elections or opinion polls to gauge public sentiment before formal voting.
Fayose’s comments come amid increasing political activity and disagreements among political actors ahead of the 2027 general elections.
