NiHSA warned that Lagos could experience heavy rainfall and flooding between September 19 and 25, 2026.
The communities and areas identified by the state government include Eti-Osa, Lagos Island, Oke-Ira Nla in Ajah, Kirikiri, Ilaje Waterfront Jetty, Isheri North, Jetty Terminal B, Kara, Itowolo, Ajegunle, Majidun, Ogolonto and parts of Agboyi.
The government also warned that communities along the Ogun River and other major waterways could face additional risks as heavy rainfall upstream may cause water levels downstream to rise.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, urged residents to take precautionary measures before floodwaters rise.
He also warned residents against walking or driving through flooded roads, bridges and fast-moving water.
The state government further urged residents to stop dumping refuse into drains, canals and waterways, warning that blocked drainage channels could worsen flooding and delay the recession of floodwaters.
Residents in affected areas were advised to comply with the relocation directive and take necessary precautions to protect lives and property.
