Lamine Yamal Deserves 2026 Ballon d’Or, Says Barcelona President Laporta.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has backed teenage forward Lamine Yamal to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or, describing the youngster as a “genius” and an “extraordinary” player.

Laporta made the remarks while speaking to reporters ahead of Barcelona’s opening UEFA Champions League fixture against Feyenoord.

His comments followed the release of France Football’s 30-player shortlist for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, which included Yamal.

The Barcelona forward enjoyed a successful period under review, winning the LaLiga title with the Catalan club and lifting the World Cup with Spain.

Laporta said he would be delighted to see Yamal claim the prestigious individual award, while also expressing support for any Barcelona player who emerges victorious.

“I would love for Lamine to win the Ballon d’Or,” Laporta said.

“I would also be delighted if any player from Barça wins it. Lamine is a very mature guy. A genius. He is extraordinary.”

Yamal has continued to attract widespread attention since breaking into Barcelona’s first team, establishing himself as one of the club’s leading attacking players despite his young age.
