Meléndez, 38, a keyboardist and founding member of indie rock and synthpop band Camilo Séptimo, was discovered dead late Tuesday alongside his 35-year-old wife, Ana Paula, who was four months pregnant.
Their three-year-old daughter and 21-year-old nanny, Aleida Romero Victorio, were also found dead at the property. The family dog was reportedly killed as well.
Authorities said three of the human victims suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head, while the fourth was shot in the back.
Two of the victims were reportedly found with their hands bound, while the family dog was discovered tied by its legs. A six-year-old boy was also found at the residence but was unharmed.
Following a joint operation involving the State of Mexico Attorney General’s Office, the federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, and Mexico City authorities, two suspects were arrested in connection with the killings.
Mexican Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch said one of the suspects, identified as Diego Sebastián “N”, was a business associate of Meléndez who allegedly used his relationship with the musician to gain access to the property.
A second suspect, identified as Gerardo “N”, was also arrested and remains under investigation.
In a statement shared on social media, members of Camilo Séptimo expressed their grief over Meléndez’s death, paying tribute to his memory and artistic contributions to the band.
Authorities said judicial proceedings against the two suspects are ongoing as investigations into the multiple homicide continue.
