A Canada-based Nigerian tech recruiter, Ebunoluwa Tomiwa, has been arrested and charged with alleged human trafficking and sexual offences.
According to the Hamilton Police Service, Tomiwa, also known as Boon, was arrested after voluntarily turning himself in to police hours after he was declared wanted.
“Hamilton Police have arrested Ebunoluwa Tomiwa after he turned himself into Police earlier this morning. Tomiwa will be appearing in court for a bail hearing,” the police said in a statement.
Police said the 33-year-old, who identifies himself as a tech recruiter at TEKsystems on his LinkedIn profile, was charged with trafficking in persons, procuring sexual services, obtaining material benefit from trafficking in persons and withholding documents.
“Ebunoluwa Tomiwa, 33 years old, of Belleville was arrested for the following charges; Trafficking in Persons, Procuring for Sexual Services, Material Benefit – Trafficking of Persons and Withholding Documents,” Hamilton Police said.
Investigators said they believe there may be additional victims and urged anyone with information, or anyone who believes they may have been victimised, to contact the police.
“Investigators believe there may be additional victims and encourage anyone who may have information, or who believes they may have been victimized, to come forward and speak with investigators,” the statement added.
The charges are allegations, and Tomiwa is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
