The arrest was announced by the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, in an official statement released on Sunday evening.
According to Jimoh, the primary suspect is currently in custody assisting with ongoing investigations. Suspected methanol samples were also recovered from the scene and sent for forensic examination to determine their exact chemical composition and verify their connection to the fatalities.
To aid the investigation, forensic and medical procedures are being conducted on the bodies of the victims to establish conclusive evidence regarding the precise cause of death.
In a related enforcement sweep, operatives from the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have apprehended 14 additional suspects—including local sellers and consumers of the illicit drinks and concoctions—across various locations in the affected area.
Following the tragic incident, the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, has ordered a robust, statewide crackdown targeting the production, distribution, and retail of unapproved, adulterated, or hazardous alcoholic products.
