Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has named former Premier of the defunct Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, as his favourite Nigerian politician of all time.
Edochie made this known during a recent episode of Curiosity Made Me Ask, hosted by content creator BaeU.
The actor said Awolowo was responsible for several important developments in Nigeria, including the establishment of the country’s first television station and the introduction of free primary education.
According to Edochie, Awolowo was also transparent about his plans and how he intended to fund them.
“I am not into politics, but if you ask me who is or was my favourite politician, I will tell you it is Obafemi Awolowo,” he said.
Edochie noted that Awolowo introduced television to Nigeria in 1959, adding that it was the first television station in Africa. He also praised Awolowo for introducing free primary education.
However, he expressed regret that Awolowo never became Nigeria’s president despite his achievements.
