Rivers Community Recovers Body Of Abducted Woman From River As Investigation Begins.

 

A yet-to-be-identified woman who was allegedly abducted from Ahoada Minta in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State has been found dead in a river in neighbouring Ahoada West, with some of her body parts reportedly removed.

Residents said the woman was allegedly taken to Ogoda community, where her remains were later dumped in a nearby stream.

The incident was confirmed by the Traditional Ruler of Ogoda Community, Chief Obutu Tom, who said he received information about the alleged abduction and killing while he was in Port Harcourt on September 12, 2026.

According to him, he immediately returned to the community and reported the matter to the police.

Tom said the recovery of the remains took several days of coordination involving community leaders, the police and officials of the two local government areas.

He alleged that a group of young men abducted the woman from Ahoada Minta before killing her and removing some parts of her body.

“I cannot allow such a thing to happen in my area. I had to do the needful; so I went to the police and gave my report to them,” Tom said.

He added that on September 19, security personnel, officials of Ahoada East and Ahoada West local governments and other community leaders entered the swamp area, where the woman’s body was eventually recovered from the water.

The circumstances surrounding the killing and the identities of those responsible remain unclear.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area, Eugene Epelle, confirmed the incident and assured residents that those found responsible would be brought to justice.

The police have yet to publicly announce any arrests in connection with the incident.

The allegation that the killing was linked to a spiritualist or ritual activity has not been independently established and remains subject to investigation.
