Seyi Law Mocks Peter Obi Over Anambra Savings Claim, Shares Old Tinubu Report.

Nigerian comedian Seyi Law has taken a swipe at former Anambra State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi over his repeated claims about the funds and investments he left behind in the state.

Seyi Law stirred reactions on social media after sharing an old newspaper report which stated that former Lagos State Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu left N27 billion in the state treasury when he completed his tenure in May 2007.

The comedian appeared to draw a comparison between the figures attributed to Tinubu and Obi’s long-standing claims about Anambra State’s finances.

Obi has repeatedly said he left about $150 million and N36 billion in savings and investments when he handed over to his successor, Willie Obiano, in March 2014. He has continued to defend the figures, saying they were invested in commercial banks and could be independently verified.

In a recent handover document attributed to Obi, the former governor listed N27 billion in local investments and about $156 million in foreign-currency investments, alongside other state balances. The figures have since been the subject of competing interpretations and political debate.

Sharing the newspaper clipping, SeyiLaw questioned why Tinubu had not similarly used the reported N27 billion figure as a campaign talking point.

“Some people will not let us rest,” he wrote in the post.

His comments triggered mixed reactions online, with some social media users supporting his position while others argued that the financial circumstances, size and economic contexts of Lagos and Anambra made a direct comparison difficult.

Obi is currently the NDC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, according to the final list of candidates published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The debate over the financial position of Anambra at the end of Obi’s tenure has continued, with the former governor maintaining his account of the funds he handed over and the Anambra State Government disputing aspects of his interpretation of the state’s financial position.
