‘Step Down For Us’ — Kwankwaso Appeals To Atiku To Support NDC In 2027.

 

Vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabi’u Kwankwaso, has urged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and support the NDC ticket.

Kwankwaso made the appeal on Thursday, September 10, 2026, while receiving members of the Fulani Farmers Association at his residence in Abuja.

The former Kano State governor asked Atiku to step down from the race and back the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, promising that the former vice-president would be accommodated if the party wins the 2027 election.

“Step down for us; if we win, we will take care of you,” Kwankwaso said.

The appeal comes amid ongoing efforts by opposition politicians to form alliances ahead of the 2027 general election, with several opposition figures seeking to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku remains one of the major opposition politicians seeking the presidency in 2027 under the ADC platform.

Kwankwaso and Obi previously left the ADC for the NDC in May, citing internal divisions and ongoing legal disputes within the party.

The latest appeal by Kwankwaso further highlights the continuing realignment among opposition politicians as political parties and their candidates position themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
